Data Collectors

Build a technical profile across underwater mechanics, physiological responses, race transitions and tactical choices. Record only the measures assigned by the coach; training and collection instructions are provided. Each shift is 2.5 hours.

Biomechanical & Stroke Mechanics

• Stroke Rate (SR): Cycles per minute, or seconds per complete stroke cycle.
• Distance Per Stroke (DPS): Distance traveled per cycle; changes late in a race can help reveal technical breakdown.
• Stroke Index (SI): Velocity × DPS, a combined measure of speed and distance per stroke.

Starts, Turns & Finishes

• Reaction Time: Starting signal to feet leaving the block.
• 15-Meter Time: Starting signal to 15 meters, combining start, entry and breakout performance.
• Turn Time: 5 meters before the wall to 5 meters after it.
• Finish Time: Final 5 meters to the touch; review alongside video to assess head position, glide and finish execution.

Race Strategy & Logistics

• Breathing Pattern: Breath count or frequency, including the final section of the race.
• Drop-off Rate: Time or percentage change between race halves, or lap-by-lap slowing.

External & Physiological Factors

• Post-Race Heart Rate: Record the heart rate and elapsed time after finishing for consistent comparisons.
• Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE): Swimmer-reported effort on a 1–10 scale.
• Warm-up/Warm-down Volume: Record yards or meters completed before and after racing.
