ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT

Testing helps us coach the swimmer—not label the swimmer.

TEAMGOLDUSA uses repeatable field tests to understand current performance, guide training conversations, and see how an athlete responds over time.
01

Know the purpose

A test is a snapshot under specific conditions. It gives coaches useful information when the same procedure is repeated and interpreted with training, health, technique, and competition context.

02

Give an honest effort

Follow the coach's instructions and communicate before, during, and after testing. Maximal does not mean ignoring pain, distress, illness, injury, or a medical restriction.

03

Use the result

Your number is not your identity or your ceiling. It helps the athlete and coach discuss pacing, fitness, technical execution, recovery, and the next training priority.

WET TESTING

Pool-based efforts

Swimming tests for endurance, pace, maximal sprint performance and speed repeatability.

DRY TESTING

Dryland efforts

Land-based strength, power, mobility, conditioning and movement tests. Athlete overviews will be published with each approved protocol.

WET TESTING · CURRENT CLUB PROFILES

Different questions need different pool tests.

TEAMGOLDUSA does not use one test to define every swimmer. Distance-oriented testing looks at sustainable performance and pace. Sprint-oriented testing looks at maximal performance and the ability to repeat speed. Coaches select the test that fits the athlete and current training question.
3MTThree-minute maximal performance and critical-speed estimate
CSS400 and 200 time trials for a course-specific pace estimate
T30Thirty-minute continuous performance and pacing stability
25 / 50Maximal sprint performance with optional segment and stroke measures
4 x 50Speed repeatability under a fixed recovery protocol

What testing is not

Club performance testing is not a medical examination, medical diagnosis, or clearance to participate. Health questions and individualized restrictions belong with the athlete's parent or guardian and qualified healthcare professional.
