Measure a fast performance using a consistent technique, surface, warm-up, attempt count and measurement method.
WHAT THIS CATEGORY MEANS
A field result, not a laboratory force trace
Simple jump tests can describe distance produced under a fixed task. Without a force plate they do not directly measure peak force, impulse or rate of force development, and they do not isolate start or turn performance.
PUBLISHED PROTOCOLS
Horizontal jump performance
SBJ
Standing Broad Jump Test
A two-foot horizontal jump measured from the start line to the nearest landing contact after standardized practice and three scored attempts.
Use the same surface, footwear and measurement method.
Record all attempts; score the best valid jump.
Do not publish adult or elite cut points as youth pass/fail standards.
Do not label jump distance as swim-start power.
Landing quality comes first
Use a dry, non-slip, level surface with clear space beyond the landing area. Stop for pain, dizziness, unsafe landing mechanics or inability to follow the two-foot takeoff and landing standard.
