Plan for the exact beach, boat launch or race entrance
Use the event’s published staging point, not just the lake name. Confirm parking permits, walking distance, athlete briefing, check-in, bag storage and spectator access. Review event-issued water conditions and weather updates before leaving. Follow organizer equipment and visibility rules; a safety buoy is not automatically permitted in a sanctioned race. Spectators should remain in designated areas, and siblings need active supervision near the water.
04 · FAMILY TRAVEL PLAN
Arrival & packing
The evening before
Confirm the actual pool and athlete gate, coach arrival time, warm-up session, check-in deadline and volunteer shift. Save the address and meet instructions on your phone. Charge it and pack a power bank.
At the venue
Allow time to park, unload and walk to the pool before the coach’s arrival time. Find the team area and check in with the coach. Agree on a family meeting point, keep exits clear and check the athlete’s events before leaving.
Pack for a full session
Suit, cap, spare goggles, towels, dry clothes, warm layers, water and familiar food. Add a hat, sunscreen and a chair or canopy where allowed. Bring the permitted payment method; do not assume concessions, shade or lockers will be available.
05 · PARENT QUESTIONS
Know before you go
Can we use last year’s pool address?
Use it as a starting point, then confirm this year’s announcement. A host club can move a meet to a different school, campus or community pool.
Should we arrive at warm-up time or meet start?
Follow the coach’s requested arrival time. Parking, check-in and changing happen before the assigned warm-up; the first race time is usually too late to arrive.
Are chairs and pop-up tents allowed?
Only where the host permits them. Check designated team areas, anchoring rules and restrictions on pool-deck space, grass and walkways.
Can siblings swim while we watch?
Do not assume recreational swimming is open during a meet. Keep children supervised and ask the host about permitted areas and activities.
What if an accessible entrance is unclear?
Ask ahead for accessible parking, step-free entry, restroom access and spectator seating. A facility’s general accessibility listing may not describe the meet-day route.
Will food and water be available?
Pack enough familiar food and water for your session. Concessions, refill stations, payment methods and outside-food rules vary by venue.
Does being listed here mean we are entered?
No. An attending venue shows the team’s plan. Your athlete’s commitment, coach-approved events and accepted meet entry are separate steps.
How do we handle long travel or an overnight meet?
Confirm sessions and possible finals before booking. Plan realistic rest, meals and travel time; check cancellation terms while schedules remain provisional.
How this guide was researched
Venue facts were checked against published facility pages and host-team directions. League directories help identify regional teams; conflicting locations are marked for confirmation. Public swimming discussion groups informed the parent questions about seating, snacks, layers, long sessions and sibling care; those discussions are not used to verify venue facts.
Reference publishers include USA Swimming, Sierra Nevada Swimming, Pacific Swimming, Eastern Zone Swimming, official meet announcements, university and city facility directories, Auburn Recreation District, City of Woodland, Tokay High School, Lincoln, ARFC, Woodcreek SeaWolves, Johnson Ranch Barracudas, Del Norte Dolphins, Sunrise Sharks, Arden Park Dolphins and regional league directories. Addresses and summaries are stored here so families can use the guide without leaving TEAMGOLDUSA.
