Listen and Take Concerns Seriously

Stay calm, listen without blame, and avoid pressing a child for details beyond what they freely share. Focus on immediate safety and proper reporting.

Know Communication Rules

Understand how coaches and adults may communicate with minor athletes and when parents or guardians must be included.

Review Travel Plans

Know transportation, lodging, rooming, supervision, curfew, and emergency-contact arrangements before a team trip.

Watch for Boundary Violations

Pay attention to secrecy, favoritism, isolated interactions, inappropriate gifts, private messaging, or behavior that ignores team policy.

Support Athlete Voice

Teach athletes that they may say no to uncomfortable conduct, leave unsafe situations, and seek a trusted adult.

Report—Do Not Investigate

Use the proper reporting channel. Preserve information and allow trained authorities to assess and investigate.
