WORK CAPACITY

Conditioning Tests

Describe sustained work, progressive running tolerance or repeatability under a fixed protocol while preserving test version and stop criteria.

WHAT THIS CATEGORY MEANS

Performance under a fixed external task

Conditioning scores describe performance in the selected field test. Prediction equations and labels must not be treated as direct laboratory measurement, and land-running results remain separate from pool performance.

PUBLISHED PROTOCOLS

Progressive shuttle performance

20M

20-Meter Shuttle Run Test

A progressive, externally paced 20-meter shuttle run using one identified audio version, standardized turns and a clear two-miss stop rule.

  • Completed shuttles and final stage
  • Exact audio/protocol version
  • Reason for stopping and symptoms

COMPARISON RULE

Compare like with like.

  • Use the same 20-meter course and audio version.
  • Report raw shuttles/stage before any estimate.
  • Do not mix prediction equations or compare across versions.
  • Do not present estimated aerobic fitness as measured VO2max.

Screen the environment and the athlete

Use a flat, non-slip course with run-off space and trained supervision. Do not test through illness, pain, heat stress, respiratory distress, chest symptoms, dizziness or an individualized restriction.
