T30 Continuous Swim Test

The T30 is a continuous 30-minute performance swim. Coaches record total distance and intermediate marks so the result describes both average performance and pacing stability.

BEST USED FOR

Who this test serves

Distance swimmers completing a standardized continuous endurance performance assessment.

PRIMARY OUTPUT

What it measures

Total distance in 30 minutes, average speed, pace per 100 and optional five-minute pacing stability.

IMPORTANT LIMIT

What it does not measure

A direct VO2max test, medical evaluation or an interchangeable result across different pool courses and conditions.

COACH PROTOCOL AT A GLANCE

How to administer the T30

  1. Confirm eligibility, stop criteria and the standardized warm-up.
  2. Record pool course, start method, stroke and timing method.
  3. Swim continuously for exactly 30 minutes at the best sustainable effort.
  4. Record cumulative distance at five-minute marks and the final partial length.
  5. Calculate average speed and pace per 100; document interruptions and conditions.
