TEAMGOLDUSA · FREE FAMILY GUIDES
New Swim Family
Start your first season with clear expectations for practice, communication, equipment, and family support.
Start with one manageable week
Your family does not need to learn the whole sport on day one. Confirm where to go, what to bring, and who to ask. Give your swimmer room to learn, make friends, and enjoy the process.
Your first-week checklist
Use this checklist while reading. Checks reset when you reload; nothing is saved to an athlete record.
What progress looks like
- Learning a new skill or following an assignment more independently.
- Trying an unfamiliar event, asking a question, or encouraging a teammate.
- Building consistency, confidence, and good habits alongside race results.

Questions families ask
Does my child need to race immediately?
Ask the coach which events fit your swimmer’s readiness. Practice participation, program expectations, and meet eligibility vary. A first season is also about learning skills and becoming comfortable.
What if I don’t understand a term?
Use the Swimming Terminology guide. Ask the coach to explain any instruction that affects your family’s next step.
Are these guides only for TEAMGOLDUSA members?
No. The educational guides are public and free. Individual family records, commitments, and event requests use the member portal.
